Benefits of Intermittent Fasting
Mount Sinai researchers found that I.F. reduces inflammation and improves chronic inflammatory diseases without affecting the immune system’s response to acute infections.

Ketones or ketone bodies are a byproduct of the body breaking down fat for energy. This happens during intermittent fasting and your body switches into a state of ketosis. When you fast for a prolonged time or exercise heavily your body burns through the available glucose (blood sugar) and glycogen (stored sugars). Fat becomes the available fuel source. Ketones are formed in the liver and together with fatty acids start to break down dietary fat and body fat for fuel. The state of ketosis could possibly help lower blood pressure, reduce cravings, improve cholesterol, increase weight loss, improve energy and more.

Insulin levels drop and human growth hormone production increases – Insulin is a hormone that is responsible for putting sugar into cells and stimulating glycolysis (burning sugar for fuel) and lipogenesis (increasing fat storage). Therefore, we need less insulin when we consume food after fasting, resulting in less fat storage and inflammation. Also, lower insulin levels from your fasting window lowers inflammation.

What is autophagy?
Auto : self + Phagy : eating = self eating
When the body is put under stress, for example, fasting, it will induce a process of natural cellular to cleansing called autophagy. The body consumes dangerous, old, and damaged cells. These cells may cause inflammation and chronic disease.
AUTOPHAGY IS THE BODY’S NATURAL RECYCLING PROCESS OF OLD AND DAMAGED CELLS.
This process is just beginning to be understood. Japanese cell biologist, Yoshinori Ohsumi was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2016 for his discovery of autophagy which is a process of how cells recycle their content. Autophagy is active in all cells. Both fasting and exercise boost this process. Autophagy declines as we age. Fasting is the most effective way to trigger autophagy.

Researchers found that fasting dramatically improves stem cells ability to regenerate, repairing damaged areas of the body..
This is a protein, the brain’s growth hormone, which also supports the function of existing neurons.
BDNF Brain-derived neurotrophic hormone influences brain health and vitality. The brain contains 100 billion neurons. Neurogenesis, the process of growing new brain cells continues throughout life. New brains cells are produced. Just as important BDNH regulates the ability to make connections to other brain cells, a process called neuroplasticity.
Recent research found fasting can raise HGH by 2,000 percent in men and 1,300 percent in women!
Anyone interested in burning fat and reducing the aging process should be very interested in natural Human Growth Hormone (HGH).
Here are some benefits:
*Builds and maintains muscle mass.
*Burns adipose tissue (burns fat).
*Maximizes exercise capacity.
*Increases bone density.
*Enhanced immune system.
*Optimizes mood and well-being.
*Has powerful anti-aging abilities.

Through a new study, researchers were able to show that when Intermittent Fasting a certain protein is produced that adjusts the metabolism in the liver.

Fasting allows us to divert energy from our digestive system to healing and repairing our immune system, our joint tissue, brain cells and other regions of the body. I.F. takes the stress from our gut and allows it to heal and regenerate.
As ketones increase, most people report improved mood and creativity. Another benefit from I.F. is the opportunity to conquer a fear of hunger. (9) https://www.amchara.com/diet-fasting/the-mental-health-benefits-of-fasting
When done on a regular schedule.
– stimulates fat burning
– your body will tap into fat stores as a source of energy without losing muscle and will start producing ketones (brain fuel)

The benefits and experience of Intermittent Fasting are going to be different for everyone. Here are just a few of my observations drawing from personal experience, my client work and scientific journals on the subject of hunger.
- Manage Cravings. Fasting eliminates feelings of hunger that result from low blood sugar. Breakfast foods—think oatmeal, cereal, muffins, fruit, even smoothies – are often carbohydrate-heavy and cause a spike in blood sugar levels. When your blood sugar levels rise early in the day, your body starts to ride a rollercoaster of sugar cravings all day to try and maintain those elevated levels.
- Become More Aware of Hunger Cues. Often, we perceive feelings of thirst, fatigue, boredom or perhaps even a stomach growl as hunger, but we’re actually not hungry. Biologically, we were made to withstand weeks without food (btw I don’t recommend this). Compared with dieting, which studies show to increase hunger and cravings, fasting can help you get in touch with your hunger cues, have more willpower, and become more satisfied with your meals so you don’t overeat.

Together with all the amazing benefits above I.F. has been shown to increase stress resistance, enhance cognition in multiple domains, including spatial memory, associative memory, working memory and balance.
